Scotland’s oldest brewer, Tennent Caledonian, has announced a £1m investment into the Wellpark Visitor Centre in Glasgow’s East End. The planning application, currently with Glasgow City Council, will deliver a state of the art five star tourist attraction showcasing ‘The Tennent’s Story’ at its Wellpark site.

The enhanced visitor experience will bring to life Tennent’s 500 year heritage, telling the story of Tennent’s place in Scottish history, culture and sport, while promoting Tennent’s worldwide reputation as a Master Brewer of quality lager and ales.

Working closely with Scotland’s future creatives, Tennent’s have partnered with The Creative Cell, the Glasgow-based Creative Communications Agency, who are leading the project, together with The School of Simulation and Visualisation at The Glasgow School of Art and ZM Architecture.

The Tennent’s Story aims to open its doors to the public in autumn 2017.

Andrea Pozzi, Tennent’s MD said:

“This is a hugely exciting time for Tennent’s and this announcement is another significant investment in the future of our business and the Wellpark site. The plans we’ve put in place will transform our current visitor centre into one of Scotland’s premier tourist destinations. We can’t wait to get started.

“Since 1556, Tennent’s has been part of Scotland’s cultural history and we have an incredible story to tell. The current visitor centre attracts over 15,000 local and international tourists every year, and we look forward to welcoming even more people through our doors when The Tennent’s Story opens next year.”

Simon MacQuarrie, MD of The Creative Cell, said:

“The Creative Cell is delighted to be appointed to lead this exciting and significant project for one of Scotland’s most iconic and loved brands. We look forward to working closely with Tennent’s and our project partners to deliver a world-class visitor experience.”

Acting Director of the GSA’s School of Simulation and Visualisation (SimVis), Dr Paul Chapman, said:

“SimVis works at the cutting edge of 3D visualisation, harnessing innovations in the fast moving world of digital technology to create rich content. We are looking forward to working in partnership with Tennent’s, The Creative Cell and ZM Architecture on this exciting project to create an experience bringing to life the fascinating story of Tennent’s and its growth alongside the City of Glasgow.”
